Key Points

1. A fraction in which numerator is less than denominator is called proper fraction.      

2. An improper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator.

3. A mixed number is a number consisting of a whole number and a proper fraction.

 

Improper Fraction into Mixed Number

i.             Divide the numerator by the denominator.

ii.            Write the quotient as the whole number.

iii.          Then write down any remainder as new numerator above the denominator.     

 

Mixed Fraction into Improper Fraction  

i.             First multiply the whole number with denominator.

ii.            Then add product of whole number and denominator with numerator

iii.          Write the resultant number as numerator. Also write the denominator.
