Steps to Add Decimals

**Step1.**Change all decimal fractions/decimal numbers into like decimal fractions.**Step2:**Arrange all the decimal fractions in columns according to their place values in such a way that decimal points come in line.**Step3:**Now add.Example: Add 3.1 and 0.48

**Step1:**Change into like decimal fractions.Here, the greatest number of decimal places is two.

3.1 has 1 decimal place, we will add one 0 after 1 and so, 3.1 is written as 3.10

0.48 already has two decimal places.

**Step2:**Arrange all the decimal fractions in columns according to their place values in such a way that decimal points come in line.Steps to Subtract Decimals

__Follow same steps as in addition__Example: Solve 8 – 2.34

**Step1:**Change into like decimal fractions.Here, the greatest number of decimal places is two.

8 has no decimal place, we will add two zero after putting decimal point so, 8 is written as 8.0

2.34 already has two decimal places.

**Step2:**Arrange all the decimal fractions in columns according to their place values in such a way that decimal points come in line.(write greater decimal fraction on the top)
