Telling the Time – Quarter Past and Quarter To
We know that minute hand complete 1 round of the clock in 1 hour i.e. 60 minutes. Face of clock can be divided into 4 quarter each equals to 15 minutes (60 minutes divided by 4). So, in quarter hour i.e. 15 minutes, minute hand moves 1 quarter of the clock face.
Quarter Past
Here, the hour hand is between 1 and 2 but closer to 1 whereas minute hand is at 3. Minute hand moved 1 quarter of the face of the clock. So, time is 1:15 or quarter past 1.
Quarter To
Here, the hour hand is between 1 and 2 but closer to 2 whereas minute hand is at 9. Minute hand moved 3 quarter of the face of the clock. So, time is 1:45 (15 + 15 + 15 = 45) or quarter to 2.
