      Negative Sentences

      Compare the following sentences:

      1. I am flying to Delhi.

          I am not flying to Delhi.

      2. She is my friend.

          She is not my friend.

      3. These flowers are fresh.

          These flowers are not fresh.

      4. Ravi was studying for the test.

          Ravi was not studying for the test.

      5. They were waiting for us.

          They were not waiting for us.

      A sentence which has ‘not’ in it is called a Negative Sentence.



      Compare the following sentences:

      1. Dia has a car.

          Dia has no car.

      2. They have money.

          They have no money.

      3. She has manners.

          She has no manners.

      A sentence having ‘no’ in it is called a negative sentence.



      Compare the following sentences:

      1. We shall go to Hyderabad.

          We shall not go to Hyderabad.

      2. He is going to school.

          He is not going to school.

      3. She was sitting at her desk.

          She was not sitting at her desk.

      4. The boys are playing football.

          The boys are not playing football.

      5. He was jogging.

          He was not jogging.

      When the verb is made up of two words, we form the negative sentences by putting ‘not’ after the first word.
