Aim – To study how do plant transpire
Material Required
a potted plant (at least with 2-3 branch), two transparent polythene bags and some string or thread.
Procedure
1. Take a healthy potted plant.
2. Enclose a leafy branch of the plant in a polythene bag and tie up its mouth tightly using string.
3. Remove leaves from the other branch of the plant and enclose branch without leaves in polythene bag and tie up its mouth tightly using string.
4. Now keep the plant in sun for few hours.
5. Bring back the plant after few hours and observe the change in plant.
Observation
We see that there are water droplets on the inner side of the polythene bag in which the leaves are intact. There are no water droplets in the polythene bag without leaves.
Inference
Water comes out of leaves in the form of vapor by a process called transpiration. Plants release a lot of water into the air through this process.
